Congratulations to all the cyclists who took part in the September 10th RBC GranFondo Vancouver to Whistler race – with special applause for all our TEC team riders! For this year’s race, several TEC members put together a team, challenging themselves to power their way through downtown Vancouver and up the Sea to Sky Highway to the Whistler finish line. The TEC team was strong with some members reaching the finish line in just over three and a half hours. Others took a more leisurely pace, treating the ride as an opportunity to refresh, rejuvenate and enjoy the incredible scenery. With great weather, delicious meals and no accidents, the race was a great experience for everyone!
GranFondo races are big cycling events popular across Europe. Only in its second year, the GranFondo Vancouver to Whistler race has grown to become the largest mass cycling event of its kind in North America. More than 7,000 riders from around the world ranging in ages from 18 to 80 made the arduous 122 kilometre trek up the Sea to Sky Highway. Chair Bob Sinclair, who helped to organize the TEC team, hopes that next year more of our members will participate. “TEC members live with passion,” says Bob, “and participation in the GranFondo Whistler is just one of the many ways they express it.”
